Looking into the heart of a Fern (Ode to the dead mouse)
As Spring comes, the woodlands in Inverie turn into a carpet of green, from the velvety moss to the abundance of different varieties of Ferns. The whole place comes alive with life, the birds deafening any silence with their repetitive songs, and all the mice and voles scurrying around. Yet unfortunately for some, they chose to use the inside of my living space. In 2020 the rodent population seemed to have risen quite dramatically, and from a hygiene perspective it became so bad that the traps came out. Riddled with guilt and having the experience of seeing so much death on a daily basis, whilst the natural world was thriving, I dedicated this piece to the dead mouse. I took solace within the thought that ‘The demise of one thing in life, gives nutrients to the next’. Such is the metaphor of life.
The original was drawn on A3 toned paper using micron ink pens and acrylic paint.
The Giclee print is taken from a high resolution scan of the original and printed using pigment dye inks on 310g of matt archival paper.
The A3 giclee print comes with a 3cm boarder around the edges, making it a perfect fit for framing.
