Windfallen branches
The first job I had on Knoydart was to scramble through the woodlands digging up the invasive species of Rhododendron Ponticum. This required searching in every square foot of the woods, including climbing under and over fallen down trees. As you walk towards the mass of fallen down timber, the thought of ‘how on earth am I gonna get through that!’ passes your mind, the next thing you know, your just doing it! Hence the phrase which comes with this piece, ‘You don’t know what you are capable of until you find yourself doing it`.
This piece was drawn from a photograph of fallen down Larch tree branches, one of the more milder days of woodland scrambling. It was the first drawing I embarked on, in the first few days of the Covid lockdown, with just my campervan as an artists studio space. Drawing a web of branches must have been a meditative state of mind for me at the time, and certainly kept the cobwebs of an uncertain future away from my thoughts.
The original is drawn on A3 toned paper using micron ink pens and acrylic paint.
The print has been scanned at a high resolution and adapted to create a vibrant piece of art. Professionally printed with pigment dye inks on 310g archival matt paper.
As with all the A3 Giclee prints, there is a boarder of 3cm surrounding the edges, which makes them frame perfectly.
